one windy morning

I was walking to work one one morning and couldn't resist noticing the clouds moving so fast. It was windy but the clouds seem to be affected more. if you notice I have more pictures of the sky than anything else, I think. Maybe because they are there, readily available. So hope you like these images of a one windy morning.

premium days

I found this VOD about BYJ's stay in Japan this year. I like the way he took every opportunity to capture some images whilst the vehicle is moving. Sounds familiar. Did I just do that earlier inorder to capture the same subject?? I took my camera with me today and hubby had to stop several times for me to capture the sunset. I nearly forgot my lens cap on top of the car but it's fun.. I realized I needed a longer range lens (sigh) there's always a first time. Anyway enjoy this video from Lynzhoulily.

And one more, M my friend next door have shared this video of Fuukoks in KOB about BYJ Off shots. Really enjoy this one. This shows the funny and carefree side of BYJ.

The Puzzle...

I have done puzzles in the past but there's only one that I call very important and has a significant meaning. It's the Neuschwantein castle of Bavaria Germany. I mentioned it before and guess what? I completed it, hurray!
The photo was the ideal design of the castle by Christian Jank in 1869.

Ludwig II, King of Bavaria since 1864, addressed the following lines to the man he so greatly admired, Richard Wagner:
"It is my intention to rebuild the old castle ruin of Hohenschwangau near the Pöllat Gorge in the authentic style of the old German knights' castles, and I must confess to you that I am looking forward very much to living there one day (in 3 years); there will be several cosy, habitable guest rooms with a splendid view of the noble Säuling, the mountains of Tyrol and far across the plain; you know the revered guest I would like to accommodate there; the location is one of the most beautiful to be found, holy and unapproachable, a worthy temple for the divine friend who has brought salvation and true blessing to the world. It will also remind you of "Tannhäuser" (Singers' Hall with a view of the castle in the background), "Lohengrin'" (castle courtyard, open corridor, path to the chapel); this castle will be in every way more beautiful and habitable than Hohenschwangau further down, which is desecrated every year by the prose of my mother; they will take revenge, the desecrated gods, and come to live with Us on the lofty heights, breathing the air of heaven."

The castle has appeared in several movies, and was the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty at Disneyland Park and for the Cinderella Castles at the Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland..

Now why is this castle important? Not only did I admire it but it was featured towards the later episode of the WLS drama. What a coincidence since I only realized this when I watched it again and at the same time learned about the castle after searching for castles in Europe.

Whether they included this puzzle because of its splendid beauty or it was a metaphorical statement that one doesn't need a grand palatial habitation since this can be built and found in one's heart.. Your guess is as good as mine.

For a bit of history just click here.

For the episode I was talking about. Please click here .It's the only video I could find that wasn't dubbed.

New photos of the Face Shop ad

Here are some new pictures of the Face Shop ad. Lifted from Quilt posted by Suehan. photos courtesy of caffelatte -byjintoronto. Don't mind one of those in my living room.. ha!!!

My precious..

I planted this Hydrangea for someone's birthday and I think some of you know who it was. It's in front of the house and although the other plants of this kind have died already because of winter my precious plant didn't disappoint and seem to be holding on.

I went out hoping to get some birds photos but didn't find any. It's been very windy today and they must have hid somewhere. When I came home I noticed my plant looking lovely so I took snapshot of it.

You are my Everything (Translated)

One fine scarf..

I went to town this morning to buy some Christmas gifts. (Does that sound provincial?) It does actually since I live in a county. However we have a reasonable number of shops and guess what? Previous prints have come back and I found this one.. Does it look familiar? The print is actually called 'dog tooth'. I only found out when the item was scanned ;-). Now don't ask me why because I haven't got a clue. Anyway if you don't know what I'm talking about have a look at the video below from fuukoks. Enjoy!!!

p.s. I found a very similar scarf from M & S a couple of months ago and I regret why I didn't buy it. Back then I knew I would be writing this. Trying to fight impulse buying is not good all the time.

The significance of a pinky ring...

I always love BYJ's pinky ring and since watching WLS I couldn't help but wonder how nicely the ring looked on his finger. I found this old post about it and must have been published in KOB in the past by my dear friend next door.

original in japanese: Chosun Online 10-21-08

translated into english: a sweet sister / bb's blog

The Significance of Yonsama’s Pinky Ring?

Top actor, BYJ, went as far as using a helicopter on October 18 to preserve his friendship. YJ attended the wedding of actors Park Seong Woong and Shin Eun Jeong at the Damyung Vivaldi Park. Afterwards, he participated in Culture Day 2008 at the Cultural Arts Center where he was awarded the National Order of Culture Merit. On this day, besides YJ’s “helicopter transport strategy “which caught the fans’ attention, there was one other matter catching the fans’ eyes. That was the ring shining on BYJ’s left pinky.

BYJ is, of course, a hallyu star with numerous fans in Korea and also abroad. His popularity is enormous and he gives off an air of friendliness. But to see BYJ in the flesh is only possible at a rare public event that he attends or through a project he appears in.

On October 18 BYJ’s public appearance was enough to arouse the interest of all fans in every aspect. Among the points of interest was his ring. Why did BYJ wear a pinky ring on his left hand? Some fans are frantically searching for a reason behind the ring.

According to a staff member close to BYJ, there definitely is a meaning to the pinky ring. This staff person said on October 20, “About the time that the drama WS began broadcasting in 2002 (KBS2), BYJ would buy himself a new ring each time that a project would end.”

Then, “Mainly, I have heard that whenever a project ended, he would buy himself a new ring which would have significance only to him. The significance of the ring is a privacy issue so I don’t have the details. I think that the ring he wore on October 18 is probably such a ring,” he informed us.p.s. actually, yea, wuri yong joon did say in the past that he had the habit of buying a new pinky ring after completing each drama or movie project and he also said that the ring somehow gave him comfort.

Not sure if this still holds true, in that he still buys a ring after each project. But what we do know is that he loves loves loves loves loves this particular Damiani pinky ring. He loves it so much that when he lost it whilst filming WLS, he went out and buy himself the exact same thing in replacement!

I know, your next question must be: Have I got a pinky ring? What do you think? You can guess ;-)

p.s. My only regret is not knowing this before I went to Venice since there is a Damiani shop in St. Marks Square. I must have seen it but didn't pay attention. (Sigh) nevermind don't think I could afford it Ha!! Click here if you want to visit their site.

When is a joke not funny?

Most of us hear jokes every now and then. They have become part of life because they make people laugh and make life lighter. The sudden burst of laughter brings joy in the air and we all love that, don't we? A merry feeling that makes us forget all our troubles, concerns, the reality of a difficult job, loneliness, or perhaps our own insecurities.

Do we all know what the word 'joke' really mean? According to Wisegeek.com - 'Jokes have a generic meaning of verbal humor, including one-liners, riddles, and other things that make us laugh; but the joke is also a form, a funny, made-up story with a punchline told by one person. A joke is distinguished from an anecdote, which may be a funny story and have a punchline, but is about a real or true incident. Because it is a form of story, the joke has some of the attributes of a story, such as a beginning, middle, and end. The beginning is the set-up for the joke. While the setting, mood, and tone of, say, a short story or novel are established over time, these elements are often compressed into as little as a single sentence in a joke.'
When you're little you probably heard other kids making fun of the way you dressed, your looks, status in life and even what you didn't have.. The excuse..it's only a joke! Does that mean your life is a joke too? Do you think not being born with a silver spoon in your mouth or perhaps not able to attend to the famous private University in the country is also a joke? Now before I get carried away let's read some jokes from cleanjokes.com...

At the end of the school year a kindergarten teacher was receiving gifts from her class. The florist's son handed her a gift. She shook it and said, "I bet I know what it is; Flowers." "That's right!" the boy said, "but, how did you know?" "Oh, just a wild guess," the teacher replied.
The next student was the candy shop owner's daughter. The teacher held her gift, shook it and said, "I bet I can guess what it is; A box of sweets." "That's right said the little girl, but how did you know?" "Oh, I've been around for many years," said the teacher proudly.
The next gift was from the son of the liquor store owner. The teacher held he package, but it was leaking so she grabbed a drop off the leaking contents with her finger and put it on her tongue for a taste test."Is it wine?" the teacher asked. "NOPE," the boy replied, with some excitement. The teacher repeated the process, tasting a larger drop of the leaking package. "Is it champagne?" she asked. "NO MAM," he replied, with even more excitement!

The teacher with all her knowledge finally took one more big taste before admitting, "I give up. What is it?"

With an giant grin the boy replied, “SURPRISE, It's a puppy!"

Now let's try a another one with adult humor.

A couple had been married for 40 years and also celebrated their 60th birthdays. During the celebration, a fairy appeared and said that because they had been such a loving couple all these years, she would give them one wish each.Being the faithful, loving spouse for all these years, naturally the wife wanted for herself and her husband to have a romantic vacation together, so she wished for them to travel around the world. The fairy waved her wand and boom! ... The wife had the tickets in her hand.Next, it was the husband's turn and the fairy assured him he could have any wish he wanted, all he needed to do was ask for his heart's desire. He paused for a moment, and then said, "Well, honestly, I'd like to have a woman 30 years younger than me."The fairy picked up her wand and kazoom! ... The husband turned 90!

It's funny isn't it??Not all of us have the ability to deliver a joke that's why some tend to say something in hope that the listener will find it amusing. Because it borders on the fine line of what was uttered was funny or not so a third person would call it a JOKE.

Have a read with this one from the mail-archive..

A woman rushes to see her doctor, looking very much worried and all strung out. She rattles off, "Doctor, take a look at me. When I woke up this morning, I looked at myself in the mirror and saw my hair all wiry and frazzled up, my skin was all wrinkled and pasty, my eyes were blood-shot and bugging out, and I had this corpse-like look on my face! What's wrong with me, Doctor?" The doctor looks her over for a couple of minutes, then calmly says, "Well, I can tell you one thing... there ain't nothing wrong with your eyesight."

Is it funny enough? I'd say there is humor to it and it's a fact of life. All us will grow old, change hairstyle, bear and raise children, bulges grow from here to there and it gets difficult at times. It's even difficult when someone takes the mickey of how you look. I think the important thing is you are happy with who your are and doesn't cause others trouble at all. A joke is a joke, one could only take it with a pinch of salt and if anyone comes to you and say you are ugly and mean it as joke, will you still find that funny?? Perhaps..
This is from my favorite band.. Enjoy!

Have you found your Soulmate??

Since I started this blog and introduced it to friends I received mixed feelings and responses. They probably noticed I was talking more about the same guy and thought I was silly or plain stupid. The only thing I could say is I have high respect for this man and I knew about him since I was single. So, having this blog is not only a way of supporting him as an 'imaginary friend' since he doesn't really know me but a tribute to an idol from an avid fan.

Just like what my husband would repeatedly say about this sort of thing is ( the second man in my life) after a cute comfortable grin on his face. He knows he is my one and only.

Someone asked me at work today if I found my soulmate. I said YES!!! of course I have, I am married and inlove. Inside I was wondering what does a soulmate really mean? It's not something you would think of in everyday life perhaps more if you are single. But someone said it doesn't have to be your husband or wife. Now that's a bit sad if not.

So I surfed the net for possible answers. I suppose everyone has their own opinion but this one seem to be convincing or is it?

What is a Soul Mate?

1. A soul mate complements each other. You don't have to agree on politics, but you better have compatible ideas on the nature of G-d (even if you practice different religions).
You don't have to like the same comedians, but you have to understand each other's humor.
You may give to different charities, but you have to share a generosity of spirit.

2. Soul mates share a connection. You have to feel a connection -- a connection so strong that you say, "This may be the most remarkable person I have ever met in my life." Where you look forward just as much to conversations and activities out of bed as the other way around (although you want both).
And where it's a connection that defies time -- that you know you may raise a family together and will definitely grow old together, and the prospect excites you rather than scares you.--doxieman122

3. A soul mate is not necessarily a love interest. A soulmate is someone that will mirror you, show you everything that is holding you back...a person who will bring you to your own attention so you can change your life.

4. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you will ever meet. They will come into your life to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then they leave. --anap

5. Soulmates complete each other.

6. Soulmate feels like home. The connection is physical, emotional, spiritual, and any other "al" that is possible. It just feels like "home". And I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.--TMaude

7. Soulmates are cosmically connected.

8. Soulmates learn from each other.

My soul mate is someone who walks beside me not in front, because I may not follow. He's someone who listens when I speak and speaks while I listen. He supports me physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially if I let him. He doesn't have to agree with me but be on my side (watch my back while I watch his). Someone who doesn't execute authority over me, because only my Creator has that right, but someone who accepts me as the person I am. I was created in the Creator's image, not anyone else's. My soul mate knows this and accepts it, he walks a mile in my moccasins, then we discuss what has been learned.--feathers2306

If these would be the basis then I have certainly found mine and
I thank God for that, for giving me such a wonderful husband!

KOB Precious You (song)

This is the English translation by dear cloudnine of the latest background song in Bae Yong Joon's Korean Online Board. Just a little info for those who visits this site and doesn't know.

Precious you...Can you hear me?
My love to you, You may not be aware of.
I am always grateful for your smile,
Watching and taking care of immature me.
I love every part of you. Keep this in mind.
Though we are far apart, My mind is always with you.
This love, can't be expressed with words, it's something
I treasure. This beautiful encounter, arranged by the heaven.
Our love will last forever, so please don't worry.
When I am in pain of parting,
Your smile heals a weary day of mine.
Tears you shed, times you have suffered,
I'll protect you from now. This love can ¡t be expressed with words,
It's something I treasure. This beautiful encounter, arranged by the heaven.
Our love will last forever, so please don't worry.
When it's time to part and it hurts me,
My love will never die I will treasure,
I'll make it to love you forever,I will promise.
The thing that supports me is the precious memory we have made together.
When I'm in pain,I can get over (it), so please don't worry.
The beautiful love, arranged by the heaven, will last forever...
Precious you...

The French Paradox

I was watching Wine TV when this subject was mentioned- 'The French Paradox'. I didn't know about this fully but it had to do with the goodness of a glass of wine and the effects on the body. I investigated further and found out that apparently the French suffer from low coronary heart diseases which was attributed to the high red wine consumption. The French also consume more animal fat per day than the Americans and yet the latter have higher rate of death from coronary diseases .

According to research moderate drinkers of red wines are less likely to suffer from heart attack than heavy drinkers or from those who doesn't drink at all.

Personally, I turned down another glass earlier because of heartburn.. Hot food and wine are not friends at all in my opinion.
BYJ said he couldn't get drunk with a bottle..just couldn't. I wonder what's the secret. More wine I suppose.

WLS Anime

At last my favorite drama of all time will come out soon in animation. I am always an avid fan of Japanese anime and having BYJ and CJW as voiceovers of main chaarcters will be a wonderful treat to this remake.
According to Snowkin's translation , there will be a production media event on the 14th December 2008 at the Yokohama Arena Centennial Hall. I'm off on that day but unfortunately not physically in Japan. So, this made me wonder what this WLS Trailer would be like apart from what the official clips. Unless they changed the plot and setting this time and involve France..
The WLS is found here however if you speak and read Korean, you're lucky.
This is the link for places they include in the shooting of the Anime so I suspect there will be episodes in France. That's nice , that would be one thing I could look forward to when I get there someday. Anyhow, it's less than an hour away....

Photography, I must say a very addictive and expensive hobby. You can count me as one of those turned by the force. However I find it very pleasurable and relaxing to go out and take photos of beautiful places. Since I also enjoy travelling, I'd like to take this new baby of mine with me in search for beauty. Watch out birdies.. I'm going to catch you this time. ;-)

On the art of making wine.

This man influenced me in many ways not that I have an objection but he educated me in a way which is really good. Mr. Bae Yong Joon himself is a connoisseur of wine. If you saw his collection you won't be surprised. Because of this journey with him, I have thought of making wine as a hobby of course-drinking it is another story and creating a decent bottle of wine would be a history in the making. Take note, hubby and I thought 'Ono Rouge' would be appropriate ;-)

Anyway, back to wine making. I had a very fun experience and never thought wine making would require a lot of dedication and will power to know what you are doing and patience to wait, see and taste the fruit of your labor.

These are the grapes I collected from a family member's garden. He thought, the wine originated from Germany (some Riesling perhaps? I could be lucky)

These were taken from one vine only...It's not a lot but blimey, it was enough for two gallons.
I managed to segregate the dark ones from the green ones ready to be mashed. A potato masher would do actually. The two gallons were fermenting for 21 days and then bottled and left to mature for further 6 to 12 months. So far so good. ;-)

And these were bottled wines already just waiting for their labels.

The start of a collection. I am hoping to add 12 bottles every month and save only the best.
Hyds wine of the day.. Berberana Reserva 2004 Rioja product of Spain. I like this wine actually. This is the second time I bought it and would love to get some more since it's only half price at the moment.Surprisingly the bouquet is sweet and spicy. It actually reminds me of an Indian curry but you could smell the sweetness in it. The flavour is very mild, not too sweet but very drinkable. It is 80% Tempranillio and 20% Grenache. It was awarded Silver by Decanter and one of the top wines of Sunday Times Wine Club. It's a complete bargain..

one's journey

I came home from work today not so tired but emotionally drained. My job could be physically exhausting but emotionally demanding too. Let's say you have to deal with men and women who are not well and may not make it through life. How are you going to feel at the end of the day when someone you know may go one day? You try to be professional and deal with the situation as distant as you can but it seems harder and harder the more you avoid it. It's not easy and no matter what you do you have to be prepared as well.

I think in this life we meet people in different ways and connect with them. But when it comes to losing someone in this lifetime it would be a constant battle but I also believe that the important thing is the moment you spent with that person to let them know that you are there and everything is going to be alright...

Old Times

Since I only just started this blog thanks to a friend(s) and BYJ, I retraced my steps to the articles published about him. It happened that I now live in England and I thought looking at archives of leading newspapers might give insights on how it all began-'The Korean Boom'. Let's take a short journey through this one from the Times. It sounded political but yet it warms the heart..

From The Times- November 26, 2004
Japanese warm to the new face of an old enemy
From Leo Lewis in Narita

Photo from english.chosun.com

TEARS of relief poured from Hanako Umeda’s eyes as she ran into Narita airport to find that her heart-throb, Prince Yong, had not yet landed. She had spent weeks preparing the right clothes, the right words and the right make-up to meet him.
But her joy was brief as she took in the scene: more than 4,000 rival women had been firmly in place since 6am and had bagged all the prime positions. Hundreds more were flooding in by the minute. To Ms Umeda’s horror, many of them were waving even larger posters than the one she had brought.

“He’ll never see me or hear me tell him I love him,” she wept. “And I even learnt to speak his language.”

Narita airport has hosted arrival-gate mania many times before, but not with this level of hysteria. David Beckham and Tom Cruise have regularly pulled in healthy crowds, but Japanese star worship has never been on this scale and, more significantly, has never been directed at a Korean.

The mistrust that exists between the two countries is a legacy of Japan’s colonisation of Korea, which was officially annexed in 1910 and run by a governor-general appointed by Tokyo until the end of the Second World War. Korean culture, language and traditions were subjugated by the Japanese. After Japan’s defeat in 1945, Korea was divided between the Americans and the Russians. The division was meant to be temporary but the Cold War caused the establishment of separate governments in the North and South.

But Bae Yong Joon, a 32-year-old South Korean actor known as Prince Yong or Yong-sama to his Japanese fans, is at the core of a phenomenon. His appearance in a television drama, aired a year ago, has created a huge army of obsessive Japanese fans and generated an entirely new view of Korean men. After years of strained relations, Japan is in the throes of a “Korean boom”.

The great majority of the women who made the trek to Narita yesterday had never heard of Bae before Winter Sonata monopolised Monday viewing, but have now become collectors of his work and connoisseurs of Korean drama.

Bae has managed to tap a new demographic of screaming, tear-soaked fans: most of yesterday’s throng comprised middle-aged married women. When asked whether they would rather be Prince Yong’s lover or mother, most were unable to decide.

Sugiko Saito is a 50-year-old schoolteacher who took the day off and arrived at Narita the previous night to find the airport closed. After an uncomfortable night camped out on luggage trolleys, she managed to secure a front-row position at the arrivals gate.

“I took three weeks’ worth of Korean lessons so that I could shout out and tell him what I think of him,” she said. “Being this close is the biggest thing in my life.”

Since watching Winter Sonata, Ms Saito explained, she has begun venturing into Shin-Okubo — the district of Tokyo with the highest concentration of Korean residents, shops and restaurants. There she was able to find all the things she would need to “make Yong-sama a happy home”: Korean cooking ingredients, tea and crockery.

She was not surprised to find the shops crammed with Japanese women on similar missions. Sales at Korean stores have tripled in recent months.

Asked why Yong-sama had sparked such a frenzy, Ms Saito said: “I don’t think any of us can really explain why we love him — he represents a different type of life and a different sort of man. I think the drama showed us that other men from Asia are really gorgeous. Of course many people like Beckham, but since the affair scandal, his image here has crashed: we needed someone like Yong-sama to be our dream man.”

Yong-sama’s arrival also provided a glimpse of the dark side of the Korean boom as policemen and other male officials found themselves derided for being Japanese. “You’re all short and ugly — not like Yong-sama,” came a plaintive voice from the crowd. Bae is taller and more muscled than the average Japanese husband and his character in Winter Sonata was seen as a more sensitive man than Japanese women are used to.

Beyond Yong-sama, the Korean boom has produced a series of striking effects. Japanese tourism to South Korea rose 10 per cent last year, in part driven by package tours that stop at locations from Bae’s films. Other groups include younger women in search of potential husbands in the hope that Korean men are all like Yong-sama.

The Korean boom has also generated a thousandfold increase in female Japanese membership of matchmaking companies operating between the two countries.

Tetsuo Taniguchi, president of the matchmaker Rakuen, said: “The boom triggered by Winter Sonata is a good opportunity for a better relationship between two countries.”

According to Japan’s leading chain of Korean language schools, Japanese students of Korean have doubled since Yong-sama hit their screens.

BYJ on Merit Award

Bae Yong Joon is like the guy next door but with extraordinary achievements. He was awarded with a cultural medal and became 'publicity ambassador of Korea' last October. This award just came in time right after he launched his new photobook project. Him and his staff have been searching for places recommended by his supporters which will show the country's culture, way of life and experiences which would be of great interest for many visitors. In my opinion, there is much more to this photobook which none of us would know until it's out but the expectation is high and we could only wish it's going to be released sooner.

Apart from being a businessman, actor, photographer, product endorser, ambassador, etc. The list could go on to be honest. He already have projects lined up for the next year which includes the Kami no Shizuku (The Drops of Gods) and the Winter Sonata Anime. All the best to him and being an avid follower , rest assured I will be supporting him in every step of the way. ;-)

poppy day

I am going to take a break this weekend not only because of work but it's Remembrance Sunday. Britain is commemorating the 90 years anniversary of the World War. As for my family , my husband's great grandfather, great great uncle and granfather were war veterans. The latter survived the horrors of Dunkirk and the former didn't make it back to Britain.
This is the war memorial in France called La-Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial. The memorial was built as a tribute of the Battle of Somme, where the family managed to trace the great great uncle's epitaph.

This is John William Webster of the 2nd Battallion Sherwood Forester who died at the age of 29 on the 20th September 1914. He was a member of the regular army prior to conscription in Britain.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the whole of Britain pause in two minutes silence to remember those who have fallen in conflicts since World War 1.

Thanks tomato for posting this cf. He tried to sing shyly and the giggles!!! really love this one. I couldn't stop smilling everytime I see him laugh. It's so beautiful hearing him in English..Did I just hear him speak in English??? That's a dream come true..

I got this photo from bb's blog. Thanks bb. I think this is one of his cutest photos. It's not the first time I saw him pouting his lips. Whether he was nervous, childish or just being silly, he still looked cute as ever.
