On Wildlife

One of the things that I find interesting and stress busting is bird watching.. Some of you might find it a boring pursuit but it's worth doing.
Our first stop was the Gibraltar Point which is situated along the coast of Skegness stretching a three mile perimeter of lagoons, freshwater marsh, ponds, sand dunes and a muddy seashore.
If you are up to walking a few miles I would certainly recommend exploring the countryside near you. A good set of binoculars, boots, in our case a thick overall since the wind from the North sea was just as icy cold as winter on a mild autumn day, and a powerful camera lens are the basic things you might need. After this walk I'd come to conclusion that I desperately need an 80 to 300mm lens at least or an upgrade. (sigh)

One of the birds I saw was a Grey Plover pictured below.. This little friend breeds in the Arctic and visits Britain around July to August and November to March. They leave around April and May.

This one I had to chase around the shoreline. It's called Curlew which is the largest European wading bird. It is included in the Amber List as a bird with important breeding and wintering populations in the UK. This means the population have improved since 2002 and been taken out of the Red List.

The Gib Point is also a place to find offshore wind farms.. This is a good way of harnessing energy in a natural way.
